Where beta-caryophyllene shows up naturally 🌱

You’ve definitely met this one before, probably in your spice rack:

  • Black pepper (its signature source)
  • Cloves
  • Cinnamon
  • Oregano, basil, rosemary & thyme
  • Hops (cheers to beer 🍺)

Long before scientists gave it a name, beta-caryophyllene-rich plants were hard at work in herbal medicine:

Some cell studies show it can enhance apoptosis (cell death) in tumours and even improve the effectiveness of chemotherapy drugs. Very early stage, but intriguing nonetheless.

  • Safe to eat: It’s everywhere in culinary herbs and spices, you’re probably consuming it daily.
  • Medical use: Still in the research stage. Human clinical trials are limited, though its safety profile makes it a prime candidate for future therapies.
